The man reportedly told Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers “he was unfamiliar with the area” and was reaching for his coffee when he dropped the sweet treat
A man in Ohio caused a three-car crash after dropping his doughnut, it’s been reported.
“Crash occurred while driver [was] reaching down for food,” a citation document sent to PEOPLE by the Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed.
In the citation obtained by PEOPLE, Nicholas Fleming has received a ticket for his involvement in the crash, which took place on Wednesday, April 2 at the intersection of Rock Creek and Dewey Roads.
“Updated information while en route confirmed that three vehicles were involved, all with heavy damage, and one patient entrapped,” The Thompson Fire Department and the Hambden Fire Department, who attended the scene, shared in a Facebook post.
A driver caused the accident after reportedly dropping his doughnut, per local Fox-affiliate station WJW and CBS-affiliated station WOIO, both citing the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).
The man reportedly told troopers “he was unfamiliar with the area” and that he was reaching for his coffee at the time when he dropped the sweet treat, WJW noted.

The distracted driver hit two cars, both heading west, after reportedly going left of center, OSHP’s Chardon Post Trooper William Head confirmed, per the outlet.
The Thompson Fire Department said in a Facebook post, “Montville Fire Rescue transported one patient to UH-Geauga [UH Geauga Medical Center] with non-life-threatening injuries.”

The road was closed for approximately three hours, WJW noted, reporting that the driver had been charged with causing the crash.
“The scene was turned over to the Ohio State Highway Patrol for investigation,” the Thompson Fire Department said on Facebook.
